I love that American parents are distressed more that their children would marry an atheist than a convicted felon… actually I may have made that last one up.

Check out the really excellent Freethinker website (link at the bottom of this post). Controllare il sito web libero pensatore davvero eccellente (link in fondo a questo post). In a recent edition of the site's newsletter Owen O'Neill, a contributing writer, set out to demonstrate that religious terms defy definition. He used, for instance, the following example to illustrate that religious words are utterly meaningless outside of a religious (and therefore weird/suspend-all-disbelief) context.
'To define “divine” we might say – “divine means “holy”, “holy” means “sacred”. 'Per definire "divina" potremmo dire - "divino significa" santo "," santo "significa" sacro ". “sacred” means “sanctified”, “sanctified” means “consecrated”, “consecrated” means “godly”, and “godly” means “divine”. "Sacro" significa "santificato", "santificato" significa "consacrato", "consacrato" significa "divino", e "divina" significa "divino".
Yes, it's complete mumbo-jumbo that doesn't explain a thing. But hey, religion has spent 2000 years getting good at that!
As Owen concludes, '…it is not a question of not being able to say what the word “god” means, but rather that “god” – and every other religious word – has no meaning whatsoever. The users of these words are uttering meaningless sounds, or making meaningless scribbles on paper; they are not talking about anything at all.'

Don't dispair. Non disperate. My wife was raised German Catholic in the middle of the US Bible belt and she and I have raise an atheist child together. Oh, I should mention we are both aethists. Oh, vorrei ricordare che stiamo entrambi aethists.
My mother used to worry about not meeting me in heaven, but shortly before she died she told me she felt that if I was a real atheist that God would forgive me and let me in. I loved my mother and I am sorry her light has been extinguished for all time, but it is an amazing lesson on how people can twist their faith.

Also, for those who came from atheist homes what caused thier parents to be atheists and for those from broken homes what experience(s) caused them to not believe in God Inoltre, per coloro che provenivano da famiglie atee che cosa ha causato i loro genitori di essere atei e per quelli da famiglie divise ciò che l'esperienza (s) causato loro a non credere in Dio

If you did a poll of white British people, I guarantee the percentage of non religious would be much higher.
